We would like to thank our guest, Elaine Wilson-Reddy of Be the Elephant for helping us dig into such a sensitive topic this past week. A little bit about Elaine – is an educator, writer, and advocate. She founded Be the Elephant which provides training to adults- parents, teachers, administrators, church groups, PTOs, etc.- on the signs predatory abusers use to groom children for sexual abuse. She is a graduate of Berry College, Eastern Kentucky University, and University of Dayton School of Law. She is married and lives in Danville, Kentucky

@juliepile – Anger, acting out, not doing well in school, withdrawn, not eating, risky behaviors, unusual and sudden changes in behaviors
@cleglieter – If we build positive and deep relationships with kids, we will recognize changes in habits and passions. Suppporting the needs (Maslow before Blooms) is important.
@MsGraffsroom – The need to get the school’s social worker involved.
@MrsJackson31 summed it up nicely – Relationships need to be built with kids so when we “know” something is not right.
@MrsVandeborne – Having a counselor on site is priceless!
@joeymh43 – Train teachers through local trauma agencies.
@NJimerTwo – Suggested “looping” teachers with students so that they have multiple years to build relationships.
The common theme – build relationships with kids and their families which is what ParentCamp is all about!

Mirsada Kadiric (@kadiricmirsada) was born in Bosnia and immigrated to the United States as a war refugee in the summer of ’98 when she was sixteen years old. Not speaking the English language, and unfamiliar with the American culture, Mirsada struggled to adjust to her new high school environment. She managed to graduate with honors and chose to attend Northern Kentucky University where she further excelled and landed in the Market Research industry where she still works to this day. In 2016, she began volunteering her time serving the needs of the refugee 
population in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region, and in 2018, Mirsada released her first book, titled “I Am a Refugee: Finding Home Again in America”. The book is a memoir reflecting her personal story. She wanted this book to serve as a voice for refugees around the world who are struggling to find a place they can call home again. Let’s give Mirsada a warm welcome and hear her talk about her life as we learn what it actually means to be a refugee through her lived experiences.
